Although film has been in our world only a relatively short few years compared to the timeline of history it has made an important impact on our lives and our history in less than one hundred years.
The invention of film has allowed us for the first time to really record history as it happens, first in black and white and then in colour and this now means that we are in the privileged position to be able to view key moments of modern history as they happened such as the iconic footage of the first man on the moon.
Film can take the form of documentaries, real life events, which can be seen on TV, cinema or through the internet such as Doc-Film-Net. This allows us to remain informed on our modern day lives and also to look at history with a different and more knowledgeable perspective.
It can also take the form of fiction such as in dramas, films and soap operas and while they can be based loosely around real events or periods in history, the actual story is made up. This can prove interesting both as escapism and entertainment and also often carries a moral or story.
When fictional or real, we can learn about human kind and history through watching television and cinema, and as long as records are preserved then our ancestors will be able to connect with our current lives.
