Working on a Film Set

If you are keen to work in film, you are, unfortunately, not in a minority. This end of the entertainment industry is notoriously difficult to get into, and so if you are serious about pursuing your goals, you will need to be prepared to persevere.

To begin with, you should check out student notice boards in the film department of your local university. Often student productions require people to volunteer as assistants, and this kind of project is an excellent means by which to gain experience.

In addition, you will also want to get in touch with someone from the local film office; you should find that there is an authority in your city that deals with productions being filmed in your region. The chances are good that you may end up working on an infomercial, but this kind of experience is valuable nonetheless – even if you do find yourself listening to the line what is equity release a hundred times in an hour.

Finally, don't forget to pay plenty of attention to online message boards and classified ads. These pages often advertise vacancies for assistants on set, and you will want to take advantage of this kind of opportunity if you can.

It is not always easy to get a job working on a film set. However, with some perseverance and determination, and a few pieces of well-chosen advice, you should find that you end up with a position after a while.
